Dar es salaaam

Pemba

“Al Jazeera al khadra” the green island, named from the lush vegetation of the coast. From a far distance the island clearly resembles a floating forest. In the 9th-15th centuries different archaeological sites of great interest have been unearthed, containing the ruins of mosques, funeral pillars with coin pearls, pottery fragments and houses. Pemba earliest ruins are located near CHAKECHAKE. At PUJINI you can see the remain of a 14th C fortified settlement with a citadel, several graves and a lily pond. In Pemba, villages steeped in culture and traditions which preserve the Swahili way of life, almost oblivious to the world around them. Rainfall 1365mm, area 988km2 and temperatures of 24-27.4˚C

Pangani

PANGANI, a former hub of the Arabic slave trade this historic town is located on the shores of the 3rd largest Ocean of the world, the Indian Ocean, at the mouth of the PANGANI river (set the barrier between the two, salt and fresh water) originating from Mount Meru in the Northern Tanzania. Its an important corridor of commerce as it is a significant producer of maize, bananas and sisal. SAADANI national park with an area of 1100km2 is the only park where the bush kisses the beach. Located alongside the coastline of the Indian Ocean, the park is unique in that it has a combination of both terrestrial wildlife 1062km2 and marine 30km2, flora and fauna. However, it is one of the few parks in Africa where mega fauna has been strolling on the beach. Precipitation 1500mm per annum, 22-30.8˚C of temperature, 1100km2 total area and 1000m altitude.

Bagamoyo

BAGAMOYO is a hub of the slave trade. It is 75km to the north of Dar es salaam, the former capital of German East Africa, Bagamoyo once the mainland center of the slave trade. Many of the European explores passed through this very corner including John Hanning Speke, Henry Stanley, Grant, Burton and Dr. Livingstone. The church built in the Holy Ghost Fathers, is the oldest in East Africa and it was here that Livingstone remains rested before being taken to Zanzibar and then England. Bagamoyo is also a tropical paradise with the Bagamoyo Art College has free shows of traditional music and dancing, and mime on weekends. Weather 29˚C

Mafia

An awe island with a total area of 435km2 is a favorable haunt of big game fisherman and scuba divers. This scenic island receives precipitation of 1705mm annually, with temperatures varies from 24-29˚C. The island has two seasons both the wet and dry spells respectively. Rain seasons is between march and may while the dry season is between July and October. Kingfish, sailfish, huge rock cod, marline and horse mackerel attract lots of sports fisherman from all corners of the globe. The rare and exotic sirenian (the dugong) breeds in the mafia channel, as does the great white shark. During the northeast monsoon, turtles do lay their eggs on the smaller island east of mafia. There are ruins of settlement at Raps Kisimani, a 13th century mosque has been excavated here. A marine park in the island was gazette in 1995 and covers an area of 400km2. Mafia is surrounded by small islets rich in underwater resources and aquatic species including Green turtles, the rare Dugong and the corals. Some of the most complexes of estuarine mangrove, coral reefs and marine ecosystems in the world are found here. Mafia is a popular diving and snorkeling destination; night diving is also possible in mafia. On the islands of mafia, old trading towns line the walkway to abandoned ports and gentle sea.
