6. SHIRA PLATEAU ROUTE/MORRUM BARRIER ROUTE

This route is used for 8 days group trek via the northern circuit, a preferred route over all other routes for its wilderness character and low foot traffic. This route starts high over 12000m but on longer climbs offers the chance of easy/fair hiking from the start, here fewer tourists are encountered especially when choosing the remote northern circuit route. A start from MORUM barrier gate offers the choice to continue on the southern circuit, northern circuit or western breach but its best done via the northern circuit. All routes to Mt. Kilimanjaro are worthy to use the only thing which differs among the trekkers is their interests and the desire to appear different from others. The distance from Arusha to LONDOROSI gate is about 98km and 2 hour drive.
