The ultimate wildebeest migration is the best seasonal attraction in the Serengeti national park.
Million wildebeest, thousands of zebras and gazelles do migrate yearly, each one driven by the same ancient heritable rhythm, fulfilling its instinctive role in the inescapable cycle of life. During this period several activities take place including predation scenarios, mating rituals and grazing as well as migration, when not feeding the beasts from long columns of 40 km long and later plunge through the penile giant crocodiles-infested waters on the annual exodus, north. Birth activities do take place replenishing the species in a brief population that produces more than 9000 calves daily.
They migrate at a total distance of 1500-2000 km through the entire ecosystem consuming millions of tons of grasses throughout their pilgrimage.

The herds of wildebeest, dazzle of zebras and the daintiest, small and fastest gazelles are seen with other animals grazing in the southern portion of the open plains of Serengeti at the months of January, February and march. These are the best months for gnus to calve down and zebras giving birth to foals and tommies giving birth to their beautiful fawns of which they are precocial, they are always ready for expedition northward.
In May, the migrants plod toward south Seronera and Morue kopjes area along with many other animals like zebras and gazelles, some of herds proceed to the western part of the park in June and July, crossing the GRUMETI river where they provide an annual feast for the Nile Crocodiles, proceeding further north through Grumeti Game Reserve and Ikorongo Game Controlled Area.
They reach and cross the Mara river in September, another point where they provide an annual feast to the penile Nile Crocodiles, this action triggers panic and confusion but still they had to carry on, on reaching the open plains of Masai Mara the beasts spend sometimes there, depend on rains sensed closing from south they start to plod downward to the Serengeti eastern part, arriving in October to the open plains of the southern Serengeti, Ngorongoro conservation area and the MASWA Game Reserve awaiting for the endless drama to begin again. Migration months do differ/varies depending with the climatic conditions, the months for migration aren’t fixed.
