CLIMATE AND WEATHER OF MOUNT KILIMANJARO

The temperatures on Mount Kilimanjaro ranges from hot to bitter cold. The journey from the gate to the peak is like traveling from the equator to Antarctica in a matter of days as the routes cross through different ecological zones before reaching the summit. - This magnificent mountain has got 5 ecological zones to which each differs greatly in terms of rainfall amount, temperatures and life.

- The average temperature ranges from 70-78 degrees Fahrenheit - Temperature of this mountain is mostly determined by the altitude and time of the day. Its somewhat hotter when at the base of the mountain but keep cooling as one reaches the higher elevations towards the peak. As a trekker you should bear in your mind that this mountain weather is unpredictable, so you should always come fully equipped and well prepared for wet days and cold nights.

TRIP PLAN

As a trekker you are required to bring personal gear and equipment while communal equipment (food, tents, cooking items etc.) are mostly provided by climb operators. (DASSIE SAFARIS) - We advise you not to over pack and bring way too much pack, be selective in what you take with you. - Below is a gear list of required, recommended and optional items to bring on your climb.


1. HEADWEAR
- Brimmed hat for sun protection
- Knit hat for warmth
- Balancava for face coverage (optional)
- Bandana (optional)
2. HANDWEAR
- Gloves, warm (waterproof recommended)
- Glove liners, thin, synthetic, worn under gloves for warmth (optional)
3. EQUIPMENT
- Sleeping bag, warm
- Daypack, for you to carry your personal gear.
- Trekking poles (stick)
- Sleeping bag liner, for added warmth
- Duffel bag, for porters to carry your equipment
- Head lamp, with some extra batteries
4. FOOTWEAR
- Hiking boots, warm, waterproof (light)
- Thick socks wool or synthetic
- Sock liners, tight, thin, synthetic, worn under socks to prevent blisters (optional)
- Gaiters waterproof (optional)
- Gym shoes to wear at camp (optional)
5. ACCESSORIES
- Sunglasses
- Backpack cover, waterproof
- Poncho (wet spells)
- 1 water bottleM
- 1 pee bottle, to avoid leaving tents at night (recommended)
- Stuff sacks of various sizes to keep gear dry and separate
- Water bladder (camelback type 2-3 liters)

9. TIPPING
- Tipping to the leading crew is accepted though its an incentive, feel free to tip your crew members as a reward service, the crew includes your porter, chef and the trek guides on the trek. You will be briefed on arrival as to when and how much appropriate, as it depends on the size of your group, though exceeding briefed amount is optional no problem with that.
